I can't believe are already starting the 3rd six weeks. Time flies by when you are learning new technologies and reading great books! There are so many things going on the the OBI and WE libraries that I am not sure where to begin. Well, I have to keep things in order so we will start with the little ones.
At West End the Kindergarteners are doing fabulous. They are listening to great read aloud books and are now pros at using a shelf marker. We just learn how to handle the Chromebooks and they were able too explore the site Hightlights Kids and play some logic games. What fun we had this past week.
1st graders have been practicing locating books using the title and the call #. (Not an easy task for many people!) Since they have become so good at this we just started using Destiny's Visual Search to look up a book on the online catalog and they practiced finding their books on their own. I am so proud of these kids! Mrs. Peschel and Mrs. Wilson - your kids ROCK.
2nd graders are all over the Destiny catalog and just now creating lists of books that are interesting to them and on their reading level. These guys are truly becoming self-sufficient in the library. The great thing about this, is that it frees up time to do even more great technology fun. Way to go Mrs. Armand and Mrs. Peck's classes!
West End 3rd - 5th graders are getting quick on logging into the Google Chromebooks. They have been taking AR tests, writing up Bluebonnet Book reviews and learning how to use Google Classroom. (What a great tool for both teachers and students!) The 3rd graders have learned to bookmark sites that are frequently used, which is a big organizational skill to have. 4th graders are learning how to create Google Docs, complete an assignment and turn it in through Google Classroom. Way to go Mrs. Dobiyanski and Mrs. Wade's classes.
Mrs. Blezinger's 5th graders are finding out how fun blogging can be. Check out their posts on Kidblog.org. The students have been writing book reviews and posting them online. Just yesterday, in honor of picture book month, the 5th graders chose a higher level picture book and are in the process of writing a review! Some great books were found in the "E" section of the library.
OBI 4th graders are exploring all the uses of our online Destiny program as well as racking up the points on Book Adventure. There have been many students who are coming into the library at different times of the day just to take tests on the books they have finished - you guys are awesome.
5th graders at OBI have just discovered the joys of sharing Google Documents with a group of friends and how to collaborate on the same document in real time. I have never seen such excitement about an assignment before in my life! I can't wait to see what stories are created.
As you can see, the first two six weeks have been packed with learning in the Library Media Centers and both O'Bryant Intermediate and West End Elementary. I absolutely love my job and working with these students has been a very rewarding experience. Thank you for all the support you have given at both of the book fairs and with the ButterBraid sales so far. Until next time....
